Ability to Postpone Task (logged)

Postby dcarter » Fri Oct 28, 2011 2:53 pm

I don't like the fact that if you change the date on a repeating task, it changes the repeating date from then on. I am a former RTM user, and I appreciated the "postpone" option. If I didn't get to do a scheduled task, I could postpone it and it would move it to the next day without interfering with my original set up of the task. I can't do that with 2Do. I have to go back and change the date for repeating again because it will change the repeat date to the new date. (Example: I have a task scheduled for Wed and it repeats weekly, but I am not able to do it on Wed, so on Thurs I move it from overdue and schedule it for Thurs. From then on the task will schedule to repeat on Thurs instead of Wed, but I still want it to repeat on Wed. Adding a postpone function so that the task retains its orignial properties would be great.

Doesn't this have to do with your settings for the individual task? I can set some tasks to repeat "when completed" and others to recur "on due date."

But any change to the date will change the due date or completion date.

Well, until the devs change things, here's a workaround. Check off the task as "done." Then go to your "done" tab and un-check it and it will re-appear in today's tasks, only now it won't be related to the recurring version of itself, and you can "defer" it to whenever you want without changing the original repeat date.

A clarified suggestion for the devs would be that deferring a recurring task does not change that task's original properties (that is, if it's set to repeat on Wed and you defer it to Thurs it will still repeat on Wed the next week).
