Transferring data from iOS to Android

Postby efemera » Tue Apr 03, 2012 8:46 pm

Could someone please point me to the easiest way to move my data over - I don't currently sync anywhere and don't particularly want to start. iOS 3.1.3, Android 2.3.4.

Can you also please advise whether the move will be seamless with no loss of data or functionality?

Thanks.

Thanks. Is there a step by step for this somewhere?

Yes, but I can't see how to do that. Options in iOS device for sync are MobileMe, iCloud reminders, Yahoo calendar and iCal server (custom) - nowhere does it show toodledo. I'm quite sure it's perfectly obvious if you sync regularly, but as I don't....

Indeed - my problem is I'm too scared off messing too much without knowing exactly what should happen in case I break something!! Your input really helped me be confident I was messing round in the right place!!!

Oh, and not had chance to go thru in any detail, but seems the toodledo transfer worked a treat.

I am a long-time 2Do user on the iPad (currently running Ver 2.7.2, Build 5231 on an iPad1 running iOS 5.1.1). I dont have a Mac (I am a die-hard PC guy). I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 (running Android Ver 4.0.4), and bought the 2Do app for that (Ver 1.4.7, Buil 5194).

I understood that the only way to migrate all of my 2Do data from the iOS app to the Android app was via Toodledo, so I opened a BASIC Toodledo account. BTW, I think EVERY 2Do support/features topic that suggests Toodledo should come with the warning that all Projects and Checklists will be converted into unassociated tasks IF you sync with a BASIC (i.e., free) Toodledo account; EVEN WORSE, if you upgrade to a PRO account AFTER you have already synced 2Do with the basic account, you STILL will not see any of the originally-synched Project/Checklist items as "sub-tasks" within Toodledo. The only way to cure this is to DELETE ALL items from the upgraded Toodledo account and THEN re-synch it with 2Do. THAT will work.

One glitch that does NOT work in the iOS-to-Android-via-Toodledo sync is MULTIPLE TAGS. If you have ANY item within 2Do (i.e., Task, Project, Checklist OR items INSIDE Projects or Checklists) that has more than ONE tag, then the ANDROID end of this sync will have a big problem.

For example, if you have a task with the TWO SEPARATE tags of "@Home" and "Kids" then both the iOS 2Do app and Toodledo can synch those as completely separate tags, BUT, when the Android 2Do app downoalds that task from Toodledo (during synch) the tag will show up as a SINGLE (and new) tag displayed as "@Home,Kids"---this is also the way the tag is displayed in the main view of Toodledo's web interface, even though the "Tags" view of that web interface correctly lists each as a separate tag.

If you type in a SPACE after each comma in the Main view of Toodledo's web interface, THEN the Android 2Do app will CORRECTLY separate the two tags upon the next synch! So, the issue SEEMS to be a missing SPACE after EACH comma separating differrent tags within Toodledo, at least with regard to Toodledo-Android synching.

I haven't yet tried creating multiple tag entries in the Android app (and Toodledo) and then seeing how they synch all the way back to the iOS app, but I know already that what I have just described is a bug worthy of correction.

UPDATE: The problem seems to be with iOS-to-Toodledo synching.

If I create a multi-tag item in the Android 2Do app, and then sync with Toodledo, then that item shows up in Toodledo WITH the multiple tags, BUT with a space showing after each comma in the "Tags" field on Toodledo's Main View web page; when I then sync the iOS 2Do app with Toodledo, the new item shows up in the iOS 2Do app with individual tags (as it should).

Likewise, when I create a multi-tag item in Toodledo (via the web interface), the Toodledo web page AUTOMATICALLY inserts a space after each comma separating each tag; when I then sync the iOS 2Do app with Toodledo, the new item shows up in the iOS 2Do app with individual tags (as it should), and when I sync the Android 2Do app with Toodledo, that item also shows up in the Android 2Do app WITH individual tag s(as it should).

So, the problem seems to be EITHER (A) the way that the iOS 2Do app exports multiple tag data to Toodledo (i.e., it does not add a SPACE after each comma used to separate tags, causing Toodledo to interpret "Home, Kids" as a SINGLE tag called "Home,Kids" INSTEAD OF the two different tags of "Home" and "Kids"), OR (B) Toodledo is misreading what the iOS 2Do app is providing to it during synch.

I would suspect that it is "A" (a problem in the export process from the iOS 2Do app), since items exported from the Android 2Do app to Toodledo do NOT have this problem (i.e., the Android version of 2Do inserts a space after each comma separating multiple tags).

What is strange is that the iOS synch process with Toodledo does not result in any altering of the tags within the iOS app---the only tags that show up in the iOS 2Do app (and the Toodledo "Tags" view web page) are still just the individual tags as they were originally created; in the Android 2Do app, ALL of the tags (both the individual tags plus EVERY unique combination of multiple tags) show up in the tag list.

AND, there is also a problem with "Actions" synching FROM the Android 2Do app back to the iOS 2Do app VIA Toodledo: they don't synch at all going in THAT direction.

Items created with Actions ("Call" "SMS" "Email" "Browse" "Visit" or "Google") in the iOS 2Do app, however, WILL synch all the way through Toodledo and on to the Android 2Do app with the Action still selected.

BUT, items created in the Android 2Do app with an Action selected will synch into the iOS 2Do app (via Toodledo) WITHOUT any action selected.

I can't see anywhere on the Toodledo website where these Actions are stored, but they clearly must be getting in/out of the Toodledo database, because they CAN get from the iOS 2Do app to the Android 2Do app...

Maybe I am the only person that loves the iPad but does not like the iPhone, but being able to synch seamlessly back and forth between those two platforms is essential to me.

Update:

I have upgraded to Version 1.4.7 (Build 5194) on my Galaxy S3, and 2.8.32 (Build 6700) on my iPad, and the problem still persists.

Although tasks created in the Android app with more than one tag will sync all the way through ToodleDo and onto the iPad with each unique tag remaining completely separate (the expected behavior), tasks created in the iPad app with more than one tag will sync to the ToodleDo website with all the tags, but they will be separated only by a comma (most importantly, there will be no space AFTER any comma).

Despite the missing space after each comma separating multiple tags, the ToodleDo website can still correctly identify each tag separated by only a comma as a unique value, and will display each as a a unique tag. The problem arises when the Android app synchs with Toodledo: the Android app treats the entire string of tags and commas (no spaces) that it gets from ToodleDo as a single tag (e.g., "Home,Agenda,Soccer" instead of three separate tags of "Home" "Agenda" and "Soccer").

Ironically, tasks created in the Android app with multiple tags will synch correctly to the ToodleDo website (i.e., the website will show each tag separated by a comma AND a space immediately after each comma). Also tasks created in the ToodleDo website with multiple tags will show each tag separated by a comma AND a space immediately after each comma.
