Bluetooth handsfree woes ...

Postby bengershon » Tue Sep 14, 2010 9:20 am

I am a new user. Thanks for this truly wonderful software, which I am only just getting used to, but already cannot manage without!

I am using 2.1 on iPhone 4 with OS 4.1. I was very puzzled today when my alert alarm failed to ring whilst I was in the car. I guess it was a good thing I remembered it anyway! When I had a chance to touch the screen I saw the alert, but had not heard anything at all.

Further investigation revealed the problem:
I had my phone connected to the car's bluetooth handsfree kit. In such a situation, unless the iPod (yes, I mean iPod, not iPhone)) sound destination is set to 'speaker' and not to the bluetooth handsfree, the alert alarm does not sound (or maybe it does, but very very quietly?).

Surely this should be the default case? Should it really be necessary to go into the iPod menu every time I set the handsfree in the car in order to ensure I do not miss any alerts?

Unfortunately this isn't something we can control programmatically. This is an iOS issue which Apple needs to resolve. It might in fact be best if you leave feedback with them in regards to hands-free issues as there are certainly other issues with 'sound' and alerts which aren't all that great. But Apple has in the past solved a number of problems and concerns and hopefully will look into this as well.
