Alarms Not Working Properly Or Consistently | 3GS iOS 5.1.1

Postby ThatBigBlackGuy » Wed Jun 27, 2012 6:35 pm

I have been experiencing an issue with the alerts feature on my iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.1.1.

I use a blank template task in which I have included 95 alarms programmed for certain time increments on certain days in relation to the task's due date.

I duplicate my blank template and rename it to create new recurring tasks using the blank template's alarms.

When they work properly both my recurring tasks and the blank template test task alarms go off successfully, with the task alarm sounding and information being displayed in the Notification Center and on the Lock Screen.

--

The issue is that, with more and more frequency, the alarms do not occur when they are programmed to. There is no alarm sound or notification information displayed in the Notification Center or the Lock Screen.

--

Other information that may be pertinent:

I have confirmed that I have 2Do "On" in the Notification Center, including Sounds, Badge App Icon, and View in Lock Screen.

If I have multiple tasks each with a sound alarm to initiate at 3:00 PM, at times the alarms for all three tasks occur properly as scheduled and other times only one alarm for one task does.

Alerts for newly tasks created by duplicating my blank task template will not go off on my phone when they are scheduled to, yet occasionally after I have synced via 2Do Sync Helper the alerts will then begin going off on my phone as scheduled. This is not always the case and I cannot determine a pattern as to when this does and does not work.

After syncing via 2Do Sync Helper with my computer, the alarms for a given task will properly execute on the computer via iCal, but the alarms for those same tasks do not execute on my iPhone.

This leads me to believe the issue is restricted to the app's execution on my phone, and not creation or properties of the tasks themselves within the app.

--

I tried to be as thorough as possible in describing the particulars of my alarm issues, hopefully this has been enough to go by. Inasmuch as it is psychologically possible, I love this app. That's probably why being spurned by my 2Do alarms in such a fashion is so disappointingly frustrating.

Thank you, I appreciate the compliment.

I do not believe that the issue of alarms failing to go off as scheduled is related to marking the tasks as completed.

For example:
A task is created with a due date June 28th, 2012. Beginning at 12:00 AM, alerts for the task are programmed to go off at 30-minute intervals 1 day before the June 28th due date. So the alarms should go off at 12:00 AM, 12:30 AM, 1:00 AM, and so forth.

On June 27th none of the alarms for the task go off at any point on my iPhone. On the other hand, the alarms go off without a hitch via iCal on my MacBook, which had been synced with my 2Do app via the 2Do Sync Helper utility.

1:00 AM rolls around > Alert goes off on the MacBook, on the iPhone nothing occurs. 1:30 AM, 2:00 AM, same thing; working perfectly on my laptop but nothing on my phone.

--

As I am typing this reply, I created three new tasks, one with and two without copying my blank task template. I set alarms for two of the tasks to go off at the same time, and the alarm for the third task to go off one minute later than the other two. I reset my alarms via the settings section of the app and then synced with my computer. All three alarms went off as scheduled on my MacBook, none of them went off on my phone.

--

Since resetting my alarms earlier in the day, the alarms (let's call them "Original") for one of my previously created tasks (let's call it "Brownie Break") began working properly and going off at the programmed times. So as a test, I created an additional New alarm within Brownie Break , and yet that new alarm did not go off at the scheduled time.

And yet when the time came around for the next of the previously programmed "Original" alarms to go off, they did so, just for an extra dash of nonsensical infuriation. So yeah, there's that. I'm at a complete loss here.

I've done that as well, both in existing tasks and newly created tasks and again the alarms do not trigger when they are scheduled to.

Thank you for considering my problem, and your prompt responses.

Are there any other avenues through which I can seek assistance about this? Perhaps other forum moderators who can comment on this issue at some point? I'd hoped that the distinction between the alerts working on my computer and not my phone would narrow down the possible causes of the problem.

Even after deleting and reinstalling the app the issue continues to persist. I know that the 2Do team is constantly busy with any number of tasks and issues but it would be nice to get this addressed at some point in the future.

This issue strongly affects the manner in which I use this app as a supplement to increase my productivity and poor memory, and is the only dissatisfaction I've experienced with the 2Do apps performance to date.

Hello,

I've since purchased an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1 and reinstalled the 2Do app, and after newly repeated attempts that followed the same approach as I explained earlier, I am still not getting alarms to properly execute as scheduled. So now it's empirically demonstrated that the issue does not stem from running iOS 5.1.1 on the 3GS.

Please, this issue is exasperating. I am now out several hundred dollars after purchasing the 4 specifically so I could use the 2Do app's advertised functions and capabilities. It's difficult to understand how such a fundamental problem can exist, much less be unable to be corrected. What avenues can I pursue for finding a solution?

Forgive me if you interpreted my post as attributing purchasing the model 4 to your suggestion, I didn't buy it because of any comment you made and did not mean to imply that was the case.

Concerning your point regarding the large number of alarms per task, as I believe I indicated in earlier posts the even on a task with a single alarm, that alarm does not execute when it is scheduled to do so. And that is on both the 3GS and this more recently purchased 4. And, again, these alarms all execute correctly on my laptop when synced with the 2Do Sync Helper.

Is there an limit on the total optimum number of alarms at a given time in the 2Do app? I have not been able to find any information to this affect in the site documentation.

I will also submit a formal support request as you've suggested.
