Sorting problems with v.2.7.1

Postby aby2do » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:32 pm

I love 2Do, it's one of my top two favorite apps that I rely on every day to keep my life running smoothly. But last night I updated it to the latest version and now I can't get it to sort properly when choosing to sort by Due Date. In fact, with that option it's not sorting by date at all, the items appear randomly.

On top of that, items with a due date of tomorrow sometimes show up under Later Today, and items without a time set show the little clock icon as if they did.

Is anyone else experiencing any of these problems?

ETA: It seems that sorting by Due Date is actually influenced by an item's Start Date. This is what's causing my Today's list to appear wonky. After turning off the Grouping setting, which seemed to help a little, I found that the to-do items were still no longer sorting by Priority within Due Date. Instead, all items without a start date go first, then those with a start date that are due today — but even those are sub-sorted by start date, then due date. This should not be. Sort by Due Date should mean sort by Due Date.

IMO, Start Date should only come into play for items with future due dates but with start dates that are either Today or earlier, and those should be grouped separately under another banner, preferably by whatever its future Due Date is.

For now I'm having to remove the start date on items due today in order to allow them to properly sort within Today's due date list.

Yes, I did soon after posting here. The developers replied very quickly and asked for more detailed information about the sorting problem, so I assume a fix is now in the works. :)

I really hope that a fix is coming, because I agree with aby2do - the sorting is now randomish and extremely confusing ...the sort of confusing that means you don't have the confidence that you are a looking at all the tasks you want to be looking at.

For example. In my "Today", sorting my start date sorts nothing at all - actually some of my tasks even disappear. Sorting by "Due" date shows all the correct tasks, but inserts those with no due date randomly amongst the others under the title "scheduled" which is totally confusing; these should be neatly at the bottom as they are not critical.

...I will also submit a support request.

Thank you for the feedback, I do hope they will decide to fix it. From an end-user standpoint it's a problem. I shouldn't have to delete start dates just so the items will sort properly when I choose to sort Today's list by due date.

Since they're not as time critical, it's easier for me to ignore the choppy appearance of the to-do's with a combination of current or past start dates and future due dates, but I must admit it is a little annoying.

Jameshenderson, I'm glad you also submitted a report on this issue. I hope others will, too!

Hi Shelley,

One month on and this highly frustrating topic has not been addressed. Do you know if the dev's are actively working on it or not?

Thanks,
James.
