iCloud Sync not working - Error message included

MobileMe sync will no longer work as of June 30 2012, when Apple terminates MobileMe services. Please switch to a different sync method before that date.

iCloud Sync not working - Error

Postby ajsheridan » Thu Oct 13, 2011 3:55 pm

Hello!

Love the app, and am excited to use the iCloud sync. I purchased the 2.99 add-on, however when I attempt to sync I receive the following error message:

Sync Failed
The following error occurred during sync:: Webserver: 405 Method Not Allowed.
Check Task: XXX
Please try again later.

When I go into the task that is listed(Represented in the above error as ‘XXX’) and delete that task, the next time I sync another task is listed. It seems as though I would need to delete every tasks since I’ve run through about 6 already.

Thanks for your help,
Andy

Shelmart suggested posting to the Developers, but I can't seem to find a link for that. I'm hoping they will see this post. Thanks!

I'm probably going to delete the app and try to re-install. Hopefully it recognizes my in-app purchase.

I deleted the app, and re-installed. I got the same error, howeve since I was starting from scratch it was easier to delete the 'how to tasks', which were the only tasks. Voila! It works perfect now. Seems the current version won't sync existing tasks via iCloud. Nothing to do with apple being bogged down. So, if you don't mind starting from scratch it works!!

I also am receiving error 405 - just purchased the $2.99 in app addon for sync and not impressed. However I don't know if the devs of this app can be held to account if its an apple server issue.

Shelley,

I appreciate the amount of time, as a volunteer, you devote to these forums. I am disappointed that the developers of 2Do have not posted a clear warning to their user base that the current version of 2Do is incompatible, both on the forum and on http://www.2doapp.com.

I, as I expect every other user using the currently available version 2Do, receive the same error as the original poster:

"Sync Failed

The following error occurred during sync:: Webserver: 405 Method Not Allowed.

Check Task: Test 4

Please try again later"

This is clear a protocol error with 2Do's use of CalDAV and is very unlikely to be resolved as load reduces on Apple's iCloud and MobileMe servers. I'd be happy to discuss this with the developer's directly, but they do not seem to have a presence on the forums nor is a support address supplied on the website.

CalDAV is based on WebDAV which itself is based on HTTP. Status code 405 means the method specified in the Request-Line is not allowed for the resource identified by the Request-URI. I suspect the PUT method used to create a new VEVENT in the remote calendar is failing. Since the change to iCloud I notice a "Reminders" calendar separate from my other calendars. It looks like Apple have chosen to separate reminder events and from other calendar data. I notice 2Do is trying to add the "Test 4" task to my "Main" calendar rather than the "Reminders" calendar, I'm guessing that is no longer allowed perhaps because the URI is wrong or because reminder data can no longer be kept in the "Main" calendar.

I eagerly await the new version of 2Do to appear on the AppStore, but fear it has been held back due to non-compliance with the rules of Apple's approval process. All my other Apps had there iOS 5 updates published on the 11th/12th. For your comment of "Apple approved the update on Sept 23" to be true then v2.6.1 can't have been built with the iOS 5 GM (Gold Master) toolchain. I'd be surprised if Apple allow apps to be published that were built with the beta toolchain. Have the developers rebuilt 2Do with the final iOS 5 toolchain and resubmitted it for approval?

Andrew

We apologize for the issues you're experiencing. A fix was submitted a *month* ago and has since been in the 'Review Queue' with Apple taking its time. We have no idea why they haven't released the update for over a month and can only say "Please be patient".

This error and a possible work around has been explained here: http://www.guidedways.com/kb/article-538.html

We've been writing to Apple frequently, requesting them to kindly consider approving the app ASAP but have yet not received a reply explaining to us why it's taking so long. Please kindly be patient as we are too.

gwsupport,

Thank you for your reply and the link to the knowledge base.

I'm glad to see that my diagnosis of the issue was mostly accurate — after the switch to iCloud Apple have separated the CalDAV vCalendar data into two sets a set of calendars, one set that store events and another set that store to-dos. Sadly the work-around does not work for me, I cannot move my to-do into a calendar in the reminders section of iCloud as 2Do, on both my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2, fail to see any of the calendars in that section. It's like they are invisible to 2Do.

After ensuring I had full backups of both my 2Do and calendar data, I also tried changing my next sync action to "replace 2do data" and syncing again to see if tht would force 2Do to learn about the reminders calendars. That didn't work, neither did "force full merge on next sync". So I eagerly await v2.6.1 to be released...

Andrew

P.S. You really should make the support link more prominent on the 2doapp.com homepage. I was only able to find it after I knew what I was looking for. Being in the header rather than tucked away in the small print in the footer would surely be better?

Thanks for your suggestion Andrew - will do.

Again, we know this hurts and what hurts us more is the fact that this issue was resolved a month ago. It's painful to see the app 'In Review' for over a month without any apparent reason. Apple simply replies and says 'you haven't been forgotten, we need more time'.

We'll let you know when the new update is out, which hopefully should be any day now.

Gentleman,

GOOD NEWS guys, i have found a solution and it is simple.

Error 405 comes on because you sync your old to do list (2Do) with iCloud.
The solution:

Step 1: Access the iCloud web page, http://www.icloud.com.
Step 2: Go to Calendar, press Edit to create a new calendar folder. Named it eg."test 1"
Step 3: Under the Reminder column, press (+) to create a thing to do, in the Calendar, select "test 1" which is the folder you have created above.
Step 4: Sync your 2DO mobile device using iCloud. (using the sync function within 2DO)
Step 5: Cancel (not delete) the 2Do program by double click the home button and press the x near the 2do app.
Step 6: Launch 2Do app by pressing the 2Do app.
Step 7: You will see "test 1" as one of the folder.
Step 8: Transfer all your to do into this folder
Step 9: Sync using iCloud
Step 10: Walllaa..all done and no 405 error.

Wish you guys all the best.

Correction:

Step 3 should be :

Step 3: Under the Reminder column, press (@) to create a new reminder, select "test 1" as the list the reminder should be in.

Hi guys,

I have tried the steps above it to make sure its valid.

You have to create a folder in your 2Do, make sure it's in the iCloud calendar. Transfer all your 2do list into that folder. All done,
Here are the revised steps.

Step 1: Access the iCloud web page, http://www.icloud.com.
Step 2: Select calendar from the www.icloud.com
Step 3: create a folder in your 2DO mobile device, eg "best 1" and create a task in that folder eg. "to do test 1"
Step 4: sync within 2DO using iCloud
Step 5: in www.icloud.com, under the calendar selection, you would see "best 1" as one of the calendar folder.
Step 6: drag "best 1" from calendar into the Reminder section.
Step 7: drag all your 2Do things to do into the "best 1" folder in your mobile device.
Step 8: Sync using iCloud
Step 9: Walllaa..all done and no 405 error.

Best of luck

bushmalaya,
How do we create a folder in 2Do mobile device?
I would be utterly thrilled to follow your suggestion, but I cannot find the means of doing so.
It is vital that I sync the tasks/to-do/reminders in my iPhone, Outlook, and iCloud. I hope 2Do can handle it.
Thanks very much for your time and help.

Tq for the input shelmart.
Czechgolem, you can create a folder in 2Do by :

1) Launch the application
2) At the far left on your application screen, you can see your folder. At the lower part of those folder, there's a(+). Press that and you are on your way to create a new folder.

Outlook (to do, task) can be sync with iphone when ever they provide sync support for icloud.
I haven't check but am sure it is just a matter of time.

For now, as long you have your 2do sync with icloud, it would just be a matter of simple setup in outlook to get you up and running and get outlook in sync.

Best of luck,

Root cause

The root cause why 2Do was not able to sync with icloud was because file mismatch.
The solution is by first creating a syncable folder between 2Do and icloud.
Once that is successfull, transfer all your to do list (from the old folder) into that folder and you shouldn't have any problem syncing.

The steps i have posted suggest few ways on how to do it.(how to create folder in icloud)
You can create using your creative ways, however i have to highlight that the initial file creation and syncronization sometimes does have hiccup. The hiccup is although the file was created in 2do, it is not happening in icloud, vice versa.

Having said that, if you are able to create a folder in 2Do and after syncronization, the file then copied to icloud vice versa, you are on the right track otherwise, you have to try various ways to make it happen.

i have not been as fortunate with the protocol as others. It worked up until the step of getting the "best1" folder to sync via iCloud (despite showing the error message), but then in the middle of syncing actual tasks in that folder, it showed the error message and quit. Then it has continued to show the error message every time since. I guess I will wait for the update to see what happens, or I may have to start my task list over again another way, which might be less time consuming than all the troubleshooting. Thanks for the helpful forum, and everyone's input, though.

Hi MJR111,

The reason why it is still showing error is because u still hv ur old 2do folder which is not syncing with icloud.

If you manage to get 'best1' in sync with icloud, you are already half way there.

I suggest you transfer all the task that is in the old folder into that 'best1' folder, you can create other folders and as long as it's in sync with icloud u r ok.

delete the old existing folder that was created before icloud, leave only those you have created which is able to sync with icloud.

then try sync with icloud gain...u will be ok, all system will go, like me..2do in sync with icloud over the air using 2.6 :D

Let me share how i did it,

I have an ipad and iphone, both have 2do.
All this while i have been using my mac as a server to sync 2do between the two.

With icloud, I decided to hv it in sync over the air.
However, i encounter a problem, the ones that all of us has..error 405.
i spent 6 hours (from 11pm to 5am) trying various ways, at last i got the solution hence my earlier post on how to do it.Maybe because i was excited to share the solution, i forgot the first thing i did, it is now step 1 below.

Step 1) i wipe out the whole data in my ipad 2do, i deleted the whole folder and task, make it a blank 2do.(am not worried because i have my data in the iphone.
Step 2: Access the iCloud web page, http://www.icloud.com.
Step 3: Select calendar from the www.icloud.com
Step 4: create a folder in my ipad 2DO (the blank 2do), eg "best 1" and create a task in that folder eg. "to do test 1" i suggest you create the same number of folder you have in your existing 2do, do use a different name to easily identify later.
Step 5: sync within 2DO using iCloud
Step 6: in www.icloud.com, under the calendar selection, you would see "best 1" as one of the calendar folder.
Step 7: drag "best 1" from calendar into the Reminder section.
Step 8: sync iphone and ipad with2do.
Step 9: you would be able to see the folder that's syncable with icloud. you might see lots of duplication folder.

Step 10: drag all your 2Do things to do into the "best 1" folder in your mobile device.
Step 11: Sync using iCloud
Step 12: Walllaa..all done and no 405 error.

now, my 2do is syncing well however it is still a problem to create another folder to sync with i cloud.
my suggesstion, in step 2 above, if you have eg.3 folder from your original 2do, do create 3 dummy. please backup your data because if you do it wrong, the whole data might dissapear.

All the best,
bushmalaya

I have tried all these manual means and i still get the same error

(as a point of note, the step "Step 3: Under the Reminder column, press (@) to create a new reminder", i have no idea what that means. Press the "@" key does nothing.)

I have just bought and downloaded 2Do.. Its brand new and only has sample data. WHy would i be getting these "405 Method Not Allowed" errors when i have no data thats "old" in the first place?
